How It Works
Four steps, and the first one is just showing up
Come to a general body meeting
No signup, no commitment, no experience required. Check the events page for the next one, walk in, and eat with us. That's genuinely all step one is.
Get on the mailing list
Email us and we'll add you. This is how you hear about recruiting deadlines, convention travel funding, and everything that isn't posted publicly.
Request a member portal account
Once you are an active member, email us to request one. An officer sends you a one-time activation link, you pick your own password, and you land straight in the portal — no officer ever sees or handles your password. Accounts are never self-serve, which keeps member resources genuinely members-only.
Find your people
Join a committee, come to familia dinner, sign up to mentor. The members who get the most out of SHPE are the ones who pick one thing and stick with it.
Requesting a portal account
Active members get a login to the member portal, where we keep chapter resources, interview prep material, and meeting notes. There is no public sign-up form on purpose — an officer creates each account by hand, which is what keeps members-only material actually members-only.
Email us from the address you want tied to your account and include your full name, major, and graduation year. An officer will set it up and send your credentials back.

Things people ask us
Do I have to be Hispanic to join?
No. Our mission centers the Hispanic community, and allies of every background are genuinely welcome at every event we run.
Do I have to be an engineering major?
No. We have members across Penn — Wharton, the College, Nursing. If you're interested in STEM and in this community, you belong here.
Is there a membership fee?
Joining the Penn chapter is free. SHPE National membership is separate and carries a small student fee, but it unlocks the national scholarship pool and convention registration. We'll walk you through whether it's worth it for you.
I'm a first-year and I don't know anyone. Is that weird?
That is the single most common way people join. Come to a general body meeting — a good portion of the room is in exactly your position.
